District 58 schools will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 2

District 58 will use an emergency day; no remote learning will take place

Dear District 58 Community,

Due to extreme weather conditions, all District 58 schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022, and students will have a snow day.

As eager as we are to keep kids in school, the safety of our students and staff must be our top priority. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for our region and forecasts that 5-12 inches of snow will fall between tonight and tomorrow afternoon. This snowfall will make clear roads and safe transport to and from school tomorrow a significant concern and serious safety risk. While the snow may allow for somewhat driveable conditions around Downers Grove in the morning, we have significant concerns about staff being able to get to and from work. Additionally, as the snow accumulates throughout the day, it could create hazardous conditions that could impact the after-school commute.

Since tomorrow is a snow day (also called emergency day), no remote learning will take place. District 58 will add one in-person instructional day to the end of the school year.

Please stay safe and warm.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kevin B. Russell
Superintendent of Schools
