WELCOME TO WHITTIER SCHOOL
Thank you for visiting the Whittier School website. We have a long tradition of academic achievement, student participation, and parent involvement. Whittier prides itself on the ability to enhance the lives of our students and maintain a positive role in the community by providing a respectful, nurturing, and challenging environment that will enable each child to reach his/her full potential. We strive to create the best learner-focused classrooms possible in order to meet the needs of each of our students. Whittier is a great place to learn!
WHITTIER’S VISION STATEMENT
Whittier strives to develop lifelong learners within a caring, safe, and healthy learning environment. Our staff will be responsive to each student and collaborate with families and community. Our students will solve problems with perseverance, and develop a social conscience which enables them to contribute to their school, family, and community. Together we will be respectful of diversity and inclusivity, and we will positively impact the world.
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL…
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! Our goal is to continue the long-standing reputation of educational excellence. As always, our faculty and staff have been preparing for a terrific school year.
This school year, we will continue to implement small group instruction, emphasizing Guided Reading and Guided Math. Technology integration will continue to progress throughout Whittier as we continue our 1:1 iPad initiative in grades 1 through 6. Social Emotional Learning will continue to emphasize school and classroom community through Classroom/Morning Meetings, Second Step, and Bullying Education and Prevention. We will also continue to work with students on goal setting. Taking ownership and responsibility for learning is key in the academic growth and improvement in students.
This year, our school theme is “Find Your Super Power.” As we continue to strengthen our Whittier School community, we will recognize the importance of understanding that we are all unique individuals with our own unique talents, interests and values that we bring to the table. As we continue to support and cultivate diversity, inclusivity and acceptance throughout our school community, it is so important that we all continue to respond in a positive, appropriate and meaningful way. Our WHITTIER Families Program will continue to grow this school year.
The school is the heart of every village. Teachers are responsible to teach and educate our children. Students are responsible to try their best and learn from the experiences afforded them. Parents are responsible to insure that their children are prepared and ready for each school day. The Community is responsible to support the overall educational process. Together, we will all work to achieve educational success for all our Whittier students!
We are very thankful for all the parent support we continue to receive at Whittier throughout the years. Our PTA continues to support our efforts and has earmarked fundraising to our building improvements projects. This year new wall mats will cover our gym. In the future, new bicycle racks, the exploration of an outdoor classroom space, and a new exterior school sign are all possibilities. A continued special thanks to MAVinS (Mothers Against Violence in Schools) for supporting our school theme and goals each school year. We all work best when we work together!
Thank you for the support and confidence you give us in educating your children!
