Superintendent’s Report
In honor of Administrative Professionals Day on Wednesday, April 27, Superintendent Dr. Kevin Russell thanked all District 58 administrative professionals, and especially Secretary to the Superintendent/Board Secretary Melissa Jerves, for their hard work. He added that May 2-6 is Staff Appreciation Week and thanked all District 58 staff for their dedication and many contributions to their schools, families and colleagues.
State Testing Reporting
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Justin Sisul reported that the Illinois State Board of Education plans to publish the final 2020-21 Illinois Report Cards for Illinois public school districts. The report card will include District 58’s Illinois Assessment of Readiness results. Due to the pandemic, many school districts, including District 58, completed their 2020-21 IAR tests in fall 2021.
ISBE provided school districts with a preview of their 2020-21 testing data on March 28, 2022. The preview data for District 58 was inaccurate and incomplete. District 58 has repeatedly contacted ISBE to correct this data. On the morning of April 25, ISBE finally added and corrected some District 58 testing data, but some data is still incorrect and/or missing. District continues to communicate with ISBE to fix all report card data. Once publicly released, District 58 will carefully review the data and if any inaccuracies or inconsistencies are identified, the District will communicate this information to families and staff.
Five-Year Financial Plan
Assistant Superintendent for Business Todd Drafall presented the final Fiscal Year 2023-2027 District 58 Financial Plan to the Board of Education. This five-year financial plan was developed through the Board’s Financial Advisory Committee and has been discussed at length at prior Board meetings (with this preview presentation shared at the April 11 Board meeting). This is the second consecutive year that District 58 presented a formal five-year financial plan to the Board. Going forward, District 58 will annually review and update its financial plan on a formal basis, with Board approval.
The Board unanimously approved the five-year plan, with Board members sharing that they felt it was a fiscally healthy practice to continuously prepare five-year financial projections through this plan.
Personnel Report
The Board unanimously approved the Personnel Report, which included the appointments of Mark Leipart to the Henry Puffer principal position and Charles Brewster to the Kingsley principal position. Both will start in July 2022. Learn more.
