Beth Taylor, member of the Downers Grove Grade School District 58 Board of Education, has announced her intent to submit her resignation in June. Citing her upcoming move out of state, Taylor’s pending resignation will be effective as of June 12, 2018. Taylor was elected to the Board in April 2017, and currently serves as the chair of the Board Legislative Committee.
Taylor’s term is set to expire in April 2021. The Board of Education is seeking applicants from the District 58 community to fill the vacancy until the April 2, 2019 Consolidated General Election. At that time, the appointee may choose to run for reelection to serve out the remaining two years of the four-year term.
Residents interested in being appointed by the Board to Taylor’s unexpired term should fill out an application, available on the District website by visiting www.dg58.org, scrolling to the School Board tab and selecting “Board Vacancy Application.” Applicants may also access the application in person at the Board of Education office, 1860 63rd Street, Downers Grove. Office hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applications are due by 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, 2018. Selected applicants will be interviewed on the evening of Monday, July 9. If additional time is required, interviews will also be conducted on Wednesday, July 11 and Thursday, July 12.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age; be a citizen of the United States and a registered voter; be a resident of the State of Illinois and Downers Grove Grade School District 58 for at least one year preceding appointment; be neither a school trustee nor a school treasurer; must not have been removed from a school board pursuant to the School Code; and must not be a child sex offender as defined in state law.
