The Citizen Task Force comprises a representative group of 40 community members. This group will evaluate community support for a funding proposal to address districtwide capital improvement needs. This group is also providing feedback to the superintendent about District 58’s facility needs and funding solutions to inform a recommendation to the Board of Education. The group met three times during the 2019-20 school year; the COVID-19 pandemic paused their work. In summer 2021, the group reconvened via a virtual meeting. District 58 worked with its School Board, Facility Planning Council, architects, parents, staff and community members to develop a draft Master Facility Plan during the 2018-19 school year. View presentations, videos and other information related to this effort.
- April 2020: Given the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on the community, the School Board revisited their plan to launch community engagement this spring. They discussed alternative plans with Paul Hanley, the District’s public engagement planning consultant. They agreed that it is important to temporarily pause the District’s facility planning work during the pandemic, with the goal of resuming it when circumstances improve. While it is still possible that a referendum question may be added to the November 2020 ballot, it is also possible that this measure may be deferred to the April 2021 or March 2022 elections.
- March 2020: Using Task Force feedback, the School Board recommends District 58 launch a community engagement effort in spring 2020 to educate the community on the District’s facility needs and to gauge their support of three potential facility opportunities.
- December 2019-March 2020: Citizen Task Force meets three times and provides feedback regarding future of District 58 facilities

- September 2019 Update: Shortly after District 58’s recommendation of Paul Hanley, Hanley’s employer, George K. Baum & Company, was sold to a different company. Hanley was offered a position with the new company; however he opted not to accept this offer. Instead, Hanley decided to start a new consulting group, which will be a subsidiary of Wight & Company, the current architect of record for District 58. The Board discussed this update and, to be fully transparent with the public, opted to continue its facility planning community engagement conversation during a special October Board meeting. They also requested the opportunity to interview two facility planning consultants. Learn more.
