District 58 seeks applicants for Board of Education vacancy

Downers Grove Grade School District 58 Board of Education Vice President Gregory Harris has submitted his resignation, effective immediately, for personal reasons. Member Harris was elected to the Board in April 2017, and his term is set to expire in April 2025. District 58 would like to thank Member Harris for his dedication and service to the students, staff, families and community of District 58.

The Board of Education is seeking applicants from the District 58 community to fill this Board member vacancy from approximately March 2025 through April 2025 (two Board meetings). Please note: the appointee is ineligible to run in the April 2025 election unless he or she already filed paperwork to be a candidate with the County Clerk in November 2024 and is already on the ballot, or meets the requirements to be a write-in candidate.

Residents interested in being appointed by the Board to Member Harris’s unexpired term should fill out this Board of Education Member Application by Thursday, Feb. 6 at 4 p.m. Paper applications are also available at the District 58 Office, located on the second floor of the Downers Grove Civic Center, 850 Curtiss St., Suite 200, Downers Grove, IL 60515. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Selected applicants will be interviewed on the evening of Feb. 24. 

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age; be a citizen of the United States and a registered voter; be a resident of the State of Illinois and Downers Grove Grade School District 58 for at least one year preceding appointment; be neither a school trustee nor a school treasurer; must not have been removed from a school board pursuant to the School Code; and must not be a child sex offender as defined in state law.
