The Illinois Association of School Business Officials (IASBO) presented Downers Grove Grade School District 58 Assistant Superintendent for Business Todd Drafall with the Director Scholarship during District 58’s Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Drafall received this award due to his three years of dedicated service on IASBO’s Board of Directors.
“Todd has always been a pleasure to work with,” said Kristopher Monn, IASBO executive director. “This gentleman has impacted Illinois school operations in an incredibly positive way.”
For instance, Monn cited, as an IASBO director, Drafall worked to get an Illinois bill passed that eliminated the requirement for Illinois school districts to accept the lowest bid submitted for school food service. Eliminating the low-bid requirement has allowed school districts to make food service decisions based on what’s best for students, instead of choosing the least expensive option.
IASBO Immediate Past President David Bein also shared his experiences working with Drafall on the Board.
“His work on the board has been very impactful. Mr. Drafall likes to ask interesting questions and to challenge some of the prevailing wisdom in ways that force people to talk about the real issues,” Bein said. “Mr. Drafall helped us make sure that we’re focusing on the right kinds of professional development and making the right decisions and partnerships through our association. It has been a joy to work with him, and we already miss him on the board.”
In recognition of Drafall’s three years of service, IASBO presented him with a $1,000 donation for the organization of his choosing. Drafall selected the Education Foundation of Downers Grove District 58 to receive the donation.
Drafall has served as District 58’s assistant superintendent for business and chief school business official since 2018. District 58 congratulates Drafall for earning the Director Scholarship and thanks him for his dedication and support of not only District 58 students, but also students across Illinois through his work with IASBO.
