Dear District 58 Community,

Our school district is fortunate to have dedicated parents/guardians, educators and community members who care deeply about the quality of education our children receive. Together, we can harness this collective passion to create a brighter future for our students. We would like to invite our community to get involved with our District 58 councils and Board of Education committees.

The following District-wide councils have openings for the 2024-25 school year:

  • Superintendent’s Community Advisory Council (comprises parents/guardians)
  • Curriculum Council (comprises mostly staff, with a number of parent/guardian spots)
  • Connection and Communication Council  (comprises parents/guardians/staff)

In addition, the District 58 Board of Education maintains several committees that provide guidance in different areas of education. The Board seeks additional members (parents/guardians, staff and community members) to fill committee vacancies on the:

  • Financial Advisory Committee
  • Legislative Committee
  • Policy Committee
  • District Leadership Team

All groups play a crucial role in shaping the direction of our schools by providing valuable input and feedback to the Board. Click here to learn more about these councils and committees, including descriptions, available spots and meeting schedules.

Your unique perspective is invaluable. By joining these committees or councils, you will have the
opportunity to contribute your insights, expertise and ideas to help further our mission, vision and goals. Your involvement will not only benefit our children but also strengthen our school community as a whole.

Please complete this brief interest form by Friday, Oct. 4. You will be contacted regarding the status of your application by Friday, Oct. 11.  We will review applications and select group members to ensure that each group contains proportional representation from our stakeholders. For example, we hope to include two parents/guardians from each school within our Superintendent’s Community Advisory Council. If more parents/guardians sign up for this committee than allotted, we will first prioritize parents/guardians who previously served one year on the Superintendent’s Community Advisory Council. We will then review the short essay answers and determine placement by interest level, with the goal of including as many stakeholders as possible in this process. While we hope to slot every applicant into a committee, that may not always be possible. Additional volunteer opportunities are available at your local school PTA.

Thank you for your time and consideration. We welcome and appreciate your participation and look forward to working together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kevin B. Russell
Superintendent of Schools
