Board Preview: May 13 Regular Meeting

The District 58 Board of Education will hold a meeting on Monday, May 13 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Downers Grove Village Hall. The public may also view the meeting remotely, via the Village of Downers Grove’s YouTube page. Following the meeting, the Village will process the video and send it to District 58 to be posted on the District’s YouTube channel.

The meeting agenda covers many topics, including:

  • A Herrick School presentation
  • A Spotlight on our Schools: 6-8 Middle School Transition Update
  • A Spotlight on our Schools: Professional Learning Mondays Update
  • A public hearing on the Physical Education Waiver application, a routine application that reflects no changes in the current PE program; and subsequent recommendation for approval
  • A recommendation to approve the Personnel Report, which includes the hiring back of many of the faculty released earlier this spring because of unknown enrollment numbers
  • A first reading of draft policy updates, most of which align with new legislation, based on the Illinois Association of School Board’s PRESS recommendations
  • A report on the May 7 Health and Wellness Committee
  • A monthly report on SASED
  • A recommendation to approve the final 2023-24 calendar, declaring May 29 as the last day of school and that no emergency days were used
  • A recommendation to approve the 2024-25 Board of Education meeting calendar
  • A recommendation to approve a tax abatement agreement with Rexnord, an agreement that has been approved annually since 2017 
  • A recommendation to approve the purchase of projectors for the middle schools
  • A recommendation to approve the purchase of 100 MacBook Airs as part of the staff device refresh cycle
  • A recommendation to approve the purchase of 560 Chromebooks for 7th graders
  • A recommendation to approve an amendment to the Downers Grove Educational Support Personnel contract to include registered nurses in the bargaining unit
  • A recommendation to designate older surplus equipment – floor machine, folding lunch tables, Chromebooks – as surplus so that they can be sold
  • A recommendation to authorize construction for Phase I Elementary Schools: Henry Puffer, Hillcrest, Highland and Whitter
  • A recommendation to approve Builder’s Risk Insurance for the Phase I elementary school projects
  • A recommendation to approve installation and site improvements for the Whittier playground
  • A recommendation to approve contracts for moving out services for three schools that will be under construction this summer
