Area veterans will have some poppies to remember this Memorial Day and for a long time after that thanks to Herrick students in Elizabeth Lukes' art class. The class created clay poppies as a gift to veterans and military families for Memorial Day. Marine veteran Ray Adams and VFW and American Legion volunteer Jennifer Snyder picked up the art projects on May 23 to deliver to area veterans. They also gifted students with the traditional poppy pin, answered questions and shared stories. "It was very moving," said Herrick art teacher Elizabeth Lukes, who developed the project for the first time this year.
