District 58 school closures extended through the end of the school year

Downers Grove SD58 News

Dear District 58 Families and Staff,

This afternoon, Governor J.B. Pritzker announced that on-site instruction for all Illinois public schools will be suspended for the remainder of the school year. This means that all school districts will continue with remote learning until the school year concludes. While this is disappointing news, the District recognizes that the health and wellness of our students, staff, families and community members is the most important thing during this unprecedented time.

District 58 remains committed to providing a quality remote learning experience. While the buildings are closed, learning will never stop. Thank you to all of the teachers and families for completing the remote learning survey (it will remain open until Wednesday, April 22; take the family survey here). Our team is reviewing all submitted feedback to help fine tune the plan.

During the extended closure, the District will continue to serve meals to students in need and donate essential supplies to healthcare workers. Additionally, the District will send out a detailed communication next week (after the survey closes and further guidance is provided by the Illinois State Board of Education) that will inform stakeholders of any revisions to our plan moving forward for the remainder of the year. Please look for an email from the District next Friday, April 24, 2020.

On a final note, I would like to thank all of you for your support and hard work over the past several weeks. The suspension of on-site instruction causes a great deal of stress for all involved, and the District is committed to assisting anyone who needs help. Please do not hesitate to reach out to a member of our team if we can be of any assistance. We are all in this together and we will get through this together!

Sincerely,

Dr. Kevin Russell Superintendent of Schools
