Superintendent’s Spring Break Message

Downers Grove SD58 News

Dear District 58 Staff and Families,

I hope this email finds you well and that you are staying healthy and safe. The events of the last few weeks have been unprecedented. We have met this challenge head on, and I would like to personally thank all of you for pulling together to care for one another. The District has worked with staff and community members to ensure that those in need continue to receive meals during this outbreak. While our buildings have been closed, I am proud to report that our schools have remained opened via e-learning.

The State of Illinois has not given school districts any additional information as to when students will return. As of today at 12 p.m., the closure is scheduled to go through April 7 with students returning on April 8.

While we hope we can reopen our schools on April 8, our students' health and safety is our top priority, and the District is preparing for a possible extended closure. Therefore, we are finalizing our plans for e-learning after Spring Break (March 30-April 3). The District anticipates the Illinois State Board of Education will send further guidance to all districts later today or over the weekend on what an e-learning day must consist of moving forward in the event the closure gets extended.

Prior to finalizing the next phase of our e-learning plan, the District would like to gather feedback from our families on the initial phase of e-learning. The feedback gathered will assist the District as it prepares for the next steps. Click on the link below to take the survey: E-learning Feedback Survey

The District will send out additional information to all staff and families next week. The goal for this communication is April 1. In the event the Governor does extend the school closure prior to our next communication, the District will update the community.

As we head into Spring Break, I would like to again thank you for your partnership during this difficult time. We are all in this together and I could not be more proud to lead District 58. Please stay safe and take care of one another.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kevin Russell
Superintendent of Schools
