Belle Aire hosts Veterans Day Ceremony

Downers Grove SD58 News

Belle Aire School honored veterans on Monday, Nov. 11 with an all-school Veterans Day Ceremony! Superintendent Dr. Kevin Russell welcomed the vets to Belle Aire and introduced the Student Council, who led a March of Colors and the National Anthem. Next, fifth graders shared the history of Veterans Day, and third and fourth graders sang "America the Beautiful."

The event grew more personal as each vet rose to the podium to share some reflections on his or her time in the service. The vets were joined by the Belle Aire student who invited them to the ceremony -- many were the children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and family friends of the vets. Each student stood proudly with their vet!

Each Belle Aire class then posed a question to the veterans: Why did you join the service? Which branch of the military did you join? What are some of your jobs in the military? What did you do in your free time? The veterans thoughtfully answered each question.

Next, the taps played while Student Council President Adrian read "America's White Table" by Margot Theis Raven and shared the significance behind the taps.

Principal Brent Borchelt shared closing remarks and invited the veterans to participate in a parade through the school. The entire Belle Aire student body lined the school's hallways as the veterans paraded through!!

Thank you, veterans, for participating in the Belle Aire Veterans Day Ceremony!
