District 58 celebrates eighth graders during Promotion Ceremony

Downers Grove Grade School District 58 congratulates O’Neill Middle School and Herrick Middle School eighth graders on their promotion to high school! The schools held Promotion Ceremonies on Monday, June 10 evening at Downers Grove South High School.

O’Neill’s Promotion Ceremony included the Pledge of Allegiance by Student Council Vice President Kathryn Snouffer and a promotion speech, titled "High Hopes," by Student Council President Riley Cain.

Superintendent Dr. Kari Cremascoli presented the Pride of O'Neill Certificates to Martin Blader and Lindsay Born. Ed Ludwig of the American Legion presented this year's American Legion Awards to Anna Casmere and James Tyrrell.

Herrick Middle School’s Promotion Ceremony opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and Class of 2019 Address by Eighth Grade Student Audrey Lee.

The American Legion's Ed Ludwig was joined by Social Studies Teacher Jay Swanstrom to present this year's American Legion Awards to Jonathan Isoniemi and Violet Mitchell. ELA Teacher Megan Winthrop and Counselor Julie Quinlan presented the Barb Blumenschein Awards to Topher Ferris, Michael Pugh, Claire Pyne and Grace Brenner. This special award is named in honor of former beloved Herrick teacher Barb Blumenschein, who passed away in 2005.
