Jamie Lindberg’s Pierce Downer second graders had a busy April. During their free time, her students could be found working on math and language arts problems using the IXL app, as part of the IXL April Challenge. The kids also sharpened their writing and creativity skills by making motivational Seesaw videos and messages to encourage each other to complete more questions and gain their classroom points.
Their hard work paid off – the students recently learned that of the 18,000 classrooms that participated in the IXL Challenge, Miss Lindberg’s students came in 10th place (and first place in Illinois!). Congratulations!! Plus, the students collectively answered 98,677 IXL questions in the month of April. That’s an average of 4,485 questions per student! One student, Annika, completed an incredible 10,000 questions on her own.
IXL is an educational app that challenges students with adaptive and personalized math and language arts questions. Since the questions were adaptive, some students were able to progress to advanced math, several levels above second grade!
“These students love a challenge!” said Miss Lindberg.
“We liked to work with friends and push ourselves to upper grade levels,” added student Tristan.
When interviewed, students enthusiastically shared what they liked most about IXL. Common answers included: funny stories, fractions, patterns, calculus, graphs and multiplication.
