Company challenges District 58 to raise money by downloading the KOHA app

KOHA, an app that connects local businesses and services to schools and nonprofits to more easily support fundraising efforts, today announced the #GivingKOHA Download Challenge to raise $5,000 for Downers Grove Grade School District 58 PTAs. Beginning today and running through June 3, KOHA challenges District 58 families to download the app and name their school as the beneficiary to help reach the $5,000 goal.

For every app download, KOHA will donate $1, with a guaranteed commitment of up to $5,000, to the District 58 PTA of the user’s choice. As they use the app and shop at local businesses, families will be able to raise even more money for District 58, beyond the initial $5,000 donation. To encourage continued use of the app and to help raise the additional funds, KOHA will conduct a summer-long promotional program highlighting the local businesses within the KOHA network. The program will showcase those businesses and share any special events or offers intended to further support District 58. Some of those businesses include:

  • Mojo’s East Coast Eats
  • Charlie & Grace
  • Cellar 406 Wine Shop
  • Burlington Barber Co.
  • MORA Asian Kitchen

“We are excited to introduce the download challenge to Downers Grove,” said, Janet Alikpala, co-founder and CEO. “Not only will the #GivingKOHA challenge provide an immediate benefit to District 58, it will also encourage families to shop at the local businesses who are willing to give back and support the district all year round.”

Founded in 2016, KOHA connects local businesses with schools and nonprofits on a regular basis. The app creates a system where every time someone shops or uses services locally, a portion of the sale will be contributed to the school or nonprofit of his or her choice. KOHA helps schools and nonprofits continuously raise money without the need to throw one-time events and encourages the supporters of those organizations to shop and use services at businesses in their community. Using KOHA at the more than 40 local businesses within its network can help fund a wide variety of programs and causes such as a new STEM classes, sports team uniforms or playground expansion projects.

“The #GivingKOHA challenge celebrates the local businesses and services for all they do to make a positive impact in the community,” said Alexandra Carlson co-founder and chief technology officer. “We want to use the campaign to recognize and support the local businesses and services and thank them for supporting all the work the schools and nonprofits do on a daily basis.”

Currently available in Downers Grove, KOHA plans to expand across the Chicagoland area to grow the giving network and improve funding for crucial programming needed in schools and nonprofits throughout the region.
