Dear Parents of 3rd and 4th Graders,
The band and orchestra teachers are pleased to announce a very exciting opportunity for 3rd and 4th grade students across District 58. As 4th or 5th graders next year, they will have the opportunity to begin playing a musical instrument in the fall!
In just a couple of weeks, the instrumental music teachers will be visiting all 3rd and 4th grade classes to meet students and present demonstrations of the various instruments they can choose from. 3rd graders will have the opportunity to sign up for orchestra and begin learning a stringed instrument next fall. 4th graders will have the opportunity to sign up for band and begin learning a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument next fall.
The document shared here provides answers to some FAQs about instrumental music and outlines our recruitment process. Parents are encouraged to please review this information and talk with their children about playing an instrument! Additionally, please make a note of our Thursday, May 16 Parent Information Meeting (at Herrick Middle School), where we will be presenting additional information and answering parents' questions prior to the sign-up process. The beginning orchestra meeting will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m., and the beginning band meeting will be from 7:30-8:30 p.m.
We are excited to meet the 3rd and 4th graders and share more about how to become an instrumental musician in District 58!
