While we want to keep students in school, the forecast weather conditions have made safe transport to and from school on Tuesday evening, Wednesday and Thursday a significant concern and serious safety risk.

District 58 thanks its Buildings and Grounds staff for their dedicated, ongoing efforts to clear snow and ice from schools. Unfortunately, de-icing chemicals lose effectiveness in extremely cold temperatures, and some pavement areas may still be slick. Please use caution when traversing on any pavement surface, such as roads, parking lots and sidewalks.

District 58 currently plans to reopen school on Friday, Feb. 1 with all regularly scheduled activities proceeding on Friday as planned. Please assume school will be in session this Friday, unless you are specifically notified otherwise. Learn more about District 58’s emergency closing procedures here.

Please keep safe during this cold spell. The National Weather Service forecasts that wind chills may go as low as 50-55 degrees below zero. Dangerously-cold wind chills can cause frostbite on exposed skin. Community members may visit the Village of Downers Grove’s website for cold weather and warming center information.
