The Downers Grove Grade School District 58 Board of Education approved the appointment of Christine Collins to the Pierce Downer School principal position during the Board’s Monday, June 11 meeting. Collins will begin her new role on July 30.
“We are proud to recommend Ms. Christine Collins to the Board of Education for the position of principal at Pierce Downer School,” said Superintendent Dr. Kari Cremascoli. “Ms. Collins is described as a person committed to excellence in education for all students and as a leader who values building relationships with students, staff and parents. We are confident that Ms. Collins will be a tremendous asset to District 58 and Pierce Downer School.”
Collins comes to District 58 from River Trails School District 26 in Mount Prospect, where she has served as an assistant principal with distinction for five years. Previously, she served two years as an assistant principal in Crystal Lake and 10 years as a teacher and reading specialist in Arlington Heights.
“I am very excited and proud to serve as principal in a district filled with passionate educators and supportive community members,” Collins said. “DG58 is a highly-respected district focused on developing the whole child. I grew up in Downers Grove, and I feel so fortunate to be able to serve as principal in my hometown. I am looking forward to working with the students, parents and staff at Pierce Downer School. “
Dr. Cremascoli added that Collins brings an extensive portfolio of experience as an instructional leader, teacher and educational administrator.
“The interview teams shared that they were impressed by Ms. Collins’ depth of knowledge related to teaching, learning, curriculum and instructional practices,” Dr. Cremascoli said. “They appreciated her caring, thoughtful and genuine approach to leadership and communication, as well as her collaborative approach to all that she does.”
