District 58 has hired Catherine Hannigan to serve as its manager of business services, starting July 16, 2018. The Board of Education approved Hannigan’s appointment during their regular March 12 meeting.
“Ms. Hannigan is a skilled educator and business professional, and we are pleased to welcome her to the District 58 Business Office,” said Assistant Superintendent for Business/CSBO David Bein. “Her experience as an assistant principal gives her great perspective on the work that the Business Office does to support learning. She has a go get ‘em attitude and looks forward to using her Chief School Business Official training and credentials to serve District 58’s children, staff and community.”
Hannigan comes to District 58 from Berkeley School District 87, where she currently works as Northlake Middle School’s assistant principal. In this role, she manages student discipline, staff evaluations, curriculum implementation and more. Hannigan also has completed Business Office internships at Indian Prairie School District 204 and Community Consolidated School District 146. During these internships, she gained extensive experience creating business contracts and reviewing safety procedures, cash flow projections, accounts payable, benefits, fee waivers, negotiations, construction projects and more.
“I am thrilled to join the Business Office team and use my education and finance experience to support District 58’s business needs,” Hannigan said.
Previously, Hannigan served as a math and history teacher at Granger Middle School in District 204, as well as a math teacher at Manteno High School in Community Unit School District 5. She earned her master’s degree in educational administration with a Chief School Business Official endorsement from Governors State University and her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Illinois State University.
During her Chief School Business Official program, she gained experience with levies, budgets, general state aid and financial forecasting.
As District 58’s manager of business services, Hannigan will oversee the District’s purchasing procedures, food service, transportation and record storage/retention. She will also assist with the District’s financial planning, budgeting, accounting and finance systems.
Hannigan will replace Director of Business Services Lorie Pilster, who will retire this summer after 19 years at District 58 and a total of 35 years in school district business services.
