The Downers Grove Grade School District 58 Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Melissa Sawisch to the Kingsley School principal position, effective July 1, 2018.
“It is my distinct honor to recommend Ms. Mel Sawisch to the Board of Education for the position of principal at Kingsley School,” said Superintendent Dr. Kari Cremascoli. “The interview team shared that they were impressed with Ms. Sawisch’s knowledge of instructional practices and curricula. She is described as a person who values building relationships with students, staff and parents and always having the students’ best interest at the heart of all her decisions. We are confident that Ms. Sawisch will continue to be a great asset to District 58 in her new role.”
Sawisch currently serves District 58 as the assistant principal of Hillcrest and Pierce Downer schools, as well as the District 58 Summer School principal. Previously, she worked as the assistant principal at O’Neill Middle School.
“I am very excited to join the Kingsley community this summer, and I look forward to contributing to this school’s success,” Sawisch said. “While I will miss directly working with the staff, students and families at Hillcrest and Pierce Downer, I feel very fortunate to continue my career within District 58.”
Prior to District 58, Sawisch served as an RTI reading and math interventionist for elementary students at Ogden School in LaGrange District 102. She also is an experienced classroom teacher and has participated on many district-level committees. Sawisch earned her master of education degree in leadership and administration from Benedictine University and an undergraduate degree from Quincy University.
Elynn Cunningham, assistant principal of Kingsley School, currently serves as Kingsley’s acting principal. She will resume her role as Kingsley assistant principal next school year.
