Hillcrest fifth graders design instruments with sound in mind

Hillcrest fifth graders recently culminated their science unit on sound with an especially creative activity: The students fashioned instruments using everyday household objects, like rubber bands, PVC pipes, glass bottles and more.

They applied their newfound knowledge on volume, pitch and tension to guide their design. They demonstrated their instruments to their classmates, using key vocabulary to explain how the instruments were made and how they work.

“It’s always impressive to see the creative and thoughtful ingenuity that goes into these instruments,” said Hillcrest Principal Michelle Rzepka, in her recent school newsletter.
