Downers Grove SD58 News

Downers Grove Grade School District 58 announces new opportunities for community members interested in getting more involved with the Board of Education.

Board Orientation

The Board will hold a Board Orientation on Monday, Nov. 28, immediately following the 7 p.m. Financial Workshop at the Longfellow Center, 1435 Prairie Ave.

Any interested community member may attend the Board Orientation. This event will especially be beneficial for individuals considering running as a candidate for the District 58 Board of Education next spring. Four open Board seats will be filled during the April 4, 2017 election.

This orientation session will cover the school board election process, board member expectations and responsibilities, school board organization, school board meetings, school finances and school board governance. No RSVP is required to attend the Board Orientation.

District 58’s Board of Education comprises seven members who each serve staggered four-year terms. Individuals interested in running for the Board may file their Prospective Candidate Petition Packets from Monday, Dec. 12 through Monday, Dec. 19, 2016 with the DuPage County Election Commission. Prospective Candidate Petition Packets are available at the Election Commission in Wheaton and on the Election Commission’s website at www.dupageco.org/Election. The DuPage County Election Commission can also be reached by calling 630-407-5600.

Meet & Confer Strategic Plan Committee

The Board of Education is forming the Meet & Confer Strategic Plan Committee. This new committee seeks to provide the Board with another avenue for communication, feedback and ongoing strategic goal review between the Board and several District 58 stakeholder groups, including parents.

Parents interested in joining this committee may contact their PTA president or fill out this interest form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf-kxSCZfj7Wz_HSSqrssS7nko1Ws2BH61-ltRtQ4UEynfF2g/viewform by Tuesday, Nov. 22. The PTA Council will select at random three parent representatives -- one from a northside school, one from a southside school and one representing a middle school.

The Meet & Confer Strategic Plan Committee’s meetings will be open to the public, so any interested parent or community member may attend. The first meeting is Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7 a.m. at the Administrative Service Center, 1860 63rd St.
