The Lester community is ready to take on the Seventh Annual “Running of the Leopards” 1-Mile/5K Fun Run and Walk on Sunday, Sept. 25. Lester School’s Fun Run, which is sponsored by the Lester PTA, is a part of the school's ongoing commitment to promote healthy attitudes toward fitness and nutrition, as well as encourage families to exercise together while creating a feeling of community. The event raises money for the Lester PTA’s many programs that promote and enhance educational growth and exploration.
“The Fun Run gives us a tremendous opportunity to express the importance of fitness, family and fun,” said Lester School’s Principal Carin Novak.
This year, the participants – including students, parents and teachers alike – will run the Lester Fun Run with a very special girl in their hearts, Anna Faye Trent, who was a Lester family member. Each Fun Run shirt will have a green heart on the sleeve with Anna's initials, and on this day, she will run with all the Leopards, both big and small.
“Our Lester community is incredibly supportive of its students and families in countless ways,” Mrs. Novak continued. “This memorable and important event affords us a chance to share in the pursuit of a common goal and encourage one another throughout the entire route. We will do so in honor of all those who have touched our lives and helped us grow into the people we are today, whether they are at our side or in our hearts.”
The event will begin at 9 a.m. with a 1-Mile Kids Run around the Lester School neighborhood, followed by a 5K Family Run/Walk at 9:45, both of which will be chip-timed. Post-race festivities include an awards ceremony, refreshments and sponsor sampling and demonstrations. Post-party refreshments are provided courtesy of sponsors Fresh Thyme, Standard Market and The Great American Bagel.
During race week, there are several fundraising events going on around town, including a “Carbo Load” night at Another Round, which is on Thursday, Sept. 22. Another Round is graciously donating a portion of sales to Lester PTA from the event that will go from 5-10 p.m. A coupon flier for the occasion, along with other information about the race and registration, can be found at www.RunningoftheLeopards.com.
