Nine-month District 58 staff returned to work this week! The District's instructional assistants kicked off their school year on Wednesday, Aug. 24 with a morning training session at O'Neill Middle School. Several District instructional coaches, teachers and administrators taught classes on a variety of topics that pertain to instructional assistants, including social-emotional student needs, special education topics, iPad basics, Google docs basics and more. The instructional assistants could choose which classes most interested them and their work.
District 58 teachers and special services staff returned to work Thursday, Aug. 25. They kicked off the day with the annual Teacher Welcome event at the Tivoli Theatre.
Assistant Superintendent for Personnel Dr. Jayne Yudzentis introduced the District's 36 new teachers and announced staff 20-, 25- and 30-year milestones. Superintendent Dr. Kari Cremascoli shared insights about the power of teamwork and dedication. Keynote speaker James Sanders encouraged teachers to take risks in the classroom and not be afraid of failure. Finally, representatives from the Board of Education and Education Foundation greeted teachers and talked about ways they serve the District.
Afterward, teachers gathered at Kingsley School for an afternoon of professional development and team-building. They can't wait for the kids to arrive Monday!
