Herrick and O’Neill middle schools recently finished busy winter sports seasons! Notably, Herrick's seventh and eighth grade boys' volleyball teams both clinched first place in the DMVA conference tournament championship! In addition, the seventh grade boys finished their season undefeated and in first place. The eighth grade boys finished 8-2 and tied for first place.
O’Neill’s boys’ volleyball teams also performed well. The O’Neill seventh grade boys’ volleyball team placed second in the conference tournament, defeating rival Westlake in the semi-finals and losing to Herrick in the championship game. The eighth grade volleyball team also had a good season, losing in the tournament semi-finals round in a close match.
Meanwhile, Herrick and O’Neill’s eighth grade girls’ basketball teams tied with each other for third place in conference. Herrick’s team finished a tremendous playoff run, winning the conference’s basketball tournament championship! “The team's determination and hard work allowed them to reach their goal of holding up the trophy at the end of the season,” said Coach Nicole Trezzo. “I am sad the season is already over, but very grateful to have had the opportunity to coach a great group of girls and watch them improve.”
District 58’s boys’ basketball teams played hard all season long, and into the playoffs. The O’Neill seventh grade team played hard and advanced until the playoff semi-finals. The eighth grade team encountered the future tournament champions Marquardt and lost to them by only three points.
“Marquardt went on to easily win their next two games on their way to being the tournament champs. Our game was close, and we held the lead until halfway into the 4th quarter,” said Coach Dustin Moore.
