Indian Trail kindergarteners enjoyed a special afternoon of science April 26 when a group of Downers Grove South biology students paid their school a visit. The kindergarteners broke into rotating groups, during which the high schoolers led a variety of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) experiments. The kindergarten students were amazed by their scientific discoveries, and the high school students enjoyed the opportunity to “teach” the children.
“The goal is to give the kindergartners exposure to the idea of STEAM at an early age, hopefully, exciting their interest in the sciences,” said Scott Parker, a DGS science teacher and instructional technology coach. “The goals for our high school students are to have them work on their presentation skills, expose them to a possible career in education, and to promote STEAM.”
