Girl Scouts from across Downers Grove participated in a Girl Scout World Thinking Day Fair on Friday, Feb. 26.  Celebrated since 1926, World Thinking Day is a day that celebrates international friendship, encourages girls to speak out on issues affecting them, and increases awareness of the Girl Scouts’ global component.

Fourteen Girl Scout troops from seven schools (Hillcrest, Highland, Kingsley, Lester, Pierce Downer, El Sierra and Whittier) held an International Fair at Highland Elementary School.  Each troop sponsored a country.  The girls learned about several aspects of their country including school life, sports, religion, fashion, food, geography and cultural arts.  They put a board together with information they learned and presented food, crafts and activities to share with the other troops.  More then 150 scouts in grades kindergarten through sixth grade attended the event and went from table to table experiencing the different countries while getting their "passport" stamped.  The event was a wonderful way for the girls to connect to other cultures and other Girls Scouts right in their own hometown.
