Whittier students dug deep in their pockets and scrounged in couches, cars and bedrooms to find coins to take part in the school's Penny Wars, raising $4,021.30 cents! This money will help the Whittier PTA’s fund to raise money for a new primary playground.

Each class collected money in a container. They gained points by adding silver coins and dollar bills and lost points by adding pennies. The strategy was to place silver coins and dollar bills into their own collection container and add pennies into the containers of other classes.

The classes within each grade competed to win an extra 15 minutes recess. Mrs. Cheryl Lyons’ class raised the most money overall ($584.04 in one week!) and won a Movie/PJ party! Congratulations!!
