Bloom's Angels makes the holidays merrier for Herrick students

Bloom’s Angels once again demonstrated their generosity this holiday season, helping 50 middle school students in need. The group comprises Herrick staff who raise money to help Herrick families who are experiencing financial difficulties.

“We put together nice Christmas bags filled with goodies (hats, gloves, socks, a Herrick T-shirt, $25 gift card to Target and of course some holiday candy,” said Co-founder and Herrick P.E. Teacher Gail Pistello. “The night before the last day before break, we put the bags in the kids’ lockers. When they come to school the next morning, they find their goodie bag in their locker. We attach a poem (that one of our LA teachers wrote) to their bag that explains why they received the bag and that someone here at Herrick really cares about them.”

Pistello, on behalf of Bloom’s Angels, also participated in Ashley Furniture’s “Hope to Dream” giveaway. Four Herrick families received new beds for each child in their home.

“They not only get a brand new twin bed and frame, they get a new comforter and pillow to go with it!” Pistello said.

Bloom’s Angels also held a holiday bicycle raffle open to all Herrick students. Ten Herrick students won a donated bicycle.

Bloom’s Angels is named after a former Herrick teacher, Barb Blumenschein, who passed away in 2005 of ovarian cancer. In the past several years, Bloom's Angels has collected and given back more than $20,000 to Herrick families in need.

Thank you for your generosity, Bloom’s Angels!
