The Education Foundation of Downers Grove District 58 and the District 99 Education Foundation are recipients of $3,000 from a collection of State Farm agents in the community.
The donations were made directly to both foundations’ COVID-19 Family Support Fundraising campaigns, which support families in need within each district. The donated funds will be used to purchase gift cards from local grocer, Shop & Save Market at (7241 Lemont Road), and distributed to families identified by school administrators.
“Many of the State Farm agencies here in Downers Grove came together and wanted to help families who need assistance right away,” said Jonathan Twitty, who owns and operates a State Farm agency at 75th & Fairview Streets. “Pooling our resources together made the most sense for me and my colleagues, and we look forward to doing more in the future.”
The State Farm agents who made contributions to the campaign include Jonathan Twitty, Benote Wimp, Thomas Revish, Neil Callow, Rich Spatz and Andy Herrero.
Since March, Shop & Save has sold $25 fresh grocery bags for shoppers to purchase for families in need. Store owner Eva Jakubowski and her team delivered the bags to families across the community. To date, Shop & Save has distributed 3,000 grocery bags.
“In District 58, our Education Foundation was told that there were approximately 350 families who were directly affected by job loss and COVID-19, and about 100 students have recently become homeless,” said Education Foundation of Downers Grove District 58 President Janet Alikpala. “We wanted to do our part to help our D58 families now and will continue to help as long as needed.”
The Education Foundation of Downers Grove District 58’s COVID-19 Family Support Fund has raised over $11,000 to date and continues to take donations here. To learn more about the D58 Education Foundation, click here.
