Good afternoon,
As we previously shared, Dr. Russell presented a plan to the Board of Education for a virtual promotion and additional activities to celebrate and recognize our eighth graders. After sharing our plans with the Herrick and O’Neill PTA Executive Boards and hearing their feedback, we are excited to announce that we are moving forward with developing a pre-recorded virtual ceremony. We anticipate incorporating many of the elements experienced during our traditional promotional ceremonies such as speeches, recognition of awards and music. To further ensure that the ceremony doesn’t lose our long standing traditions and is personal, meaningful and memorable, staff and Student Council students will be asked to weigh in and generate additional ideas.
On June 2, as originally scheduled, the promotion video will be made available to families to watch at any time. While we know we can’t replace this momentous occasion, we hope that this virtual alternative becomes a special keepsake for our graduates.
In addition, leading up to the promotion ceremony, the plan is to purchase and distribute Class of 2020 yard signs to all of our eighth grade families to proudly display in yards. Both middle schools will provide further information regarding how and when to pick up diplomas, awards, etc. at a later time.
Thank you for your continued support of District 58 as we continue to ensure the safety of all.
