Fairmount Elementary School participated in its first Be Kind Week, a week-long event that promoted kindness at school and home. The week was a partnership with Fairmount teachers, staff, student council and PTA.
The students were given daily kindness challenges during the morning announcements such as “Give a complement to three people and do something nice for someone.” In class, students wrote letters and made cards for special people in the community such as police officers, patients in nursing homes, firefighters, veterans, and sick children at Good Samaritan Pediatric Unit.
The PTA sponsored two Feed My Starving Children family events where 126 Fairmount parents and kids made meals to combat world hunger. They packed 54,216 meals that will feed 148 kids for a year.
Students took home kindness rocks from the PTA to decorate and to display on World Kindness Day on Nov. 13. The decorated kindness rocks from first graders can be found near the front entrance of Fairmount.
