The schedule and structure of District 58's current instructional model will remain unchanged through the duration of the second trimester. If a family wishes to change their child's learning model, they must contact their principal or coordinator by Jan. 19.
Grove Children's Preschool's virtual open houses will take place on Zoom on Jan. 25 and 26 from 6-7 p.m. Preschool registration for the 2021-22 school year will open Feb. 1.
Last week, the Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club Education Committee surprised nine deserving District 58 teachers with education grants. Congratulations!

On behalf of all of us in District 58, Happy New Year. 2020 was certainly a year filled with many challenges. However, it was also a year filled with so many positives. The District 58 community rallied together to support those in need, and the staff completely reinvented teaching and learning due to the pandemic.
District 58 will continue moving forward after winter break with its hybrid learning model with a full remote option. Monday, Jan. 4, 2021 is a scheduled non-attendance day (Teacher Institute Day), and onsite instruction will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021.

The School Board's December meeting featured an update on District 58's learning model, Fairmount School presentation, approval of the 2019-20 audit report, electric rate discussion, superintendent's report and more.

The fall 2020 Financial Workshop covered the District’s 2020-21 budget, new financial plan, financial projections, fund balance policy, capital planning and more.
The Education Foundation of Downers Grove District 58 will fund 11 teacher grants totaling more than $5,500 through its 2020-21 Teacher Grants Program. The Foundation annually awards grants to teachers and staff for projects that support student learning.
As previously planned, District 58 will continue to offer in-person instruction via our hybrid model for the remainder of December. Due to the ever changing nature of the pandemic, District 58 cannot yet confirm whether we will resume our hybrid model immediately after winter break.
District 58's Board of Education will hold a Financial Workshop on Monday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. In addition, Superintendent Dr. Kevin Russell will hold a virtual Candidate Forum for prospective School Board members on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
El Sierra School will receive a State of Illinois “Build Illinois Bond Fund” grant totaling $180,000 for the construction of a new playground. El Sierra plans to use the grant funding, in combination with the school’s playground fundraising efforts, to build a new playground in time for the 2021-22 school year.

ILMEA selected 41 District 58 students to participate in a virtual Fall Festival Masterclass Day in November. This event replaced ILMEA’s usual in-person music and jazz performance festivals due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although this school year certainly looks different, District 58 remains committed to continuing its Strategic Plan, School Board and other District-specific committee work. We are recruiting new members to serve on several of these groups, and we hope you consider applying!

District 58 thanks the Bonfield Express Foundation, a local charity, for donating $1,000 to each of its 13 schools this year. The Bonfield Express Foundation made this donation to support educational resources and student achievement.

Parents and guardians may sign up for a parent-teacher conference on the PowerSchool Parent Portal from Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. through Friday, Dec. 4 at noon. Parent-teacher conferences will take place virtually on Dec. 8, 10 and 11 via Zoom.
