Although this school year certainly looks different, District 58 remains committed to continuing its Strategic Plan, School Board and other District-specific committee work. We are recruiting new members to serve on several of these groups, and we hope you consider applying!

District 58 thanks the Bonfield Express Foundation, a local charity, for donating $1,000 to each of its 13 schools this year. The Bonfield Express Foundation made this donation to support educational resources and student achievement.

District 58 will resume onsite instruction after Thanksgiving break. The District will continue offering our onsite hybrid instructional model with a full remote option, along with several other DuPage school districts. Read Dr. Russell's community message to learn more.

The Nov. 18 issue of Communicate 58 features a superintendent message about the District's learning models, winter weather procedures, substitute pay, parent-teacher conferences, Veterans Day and much more.

Parents and guardians may sign up for a parent-teacher conference on the PowerSchool Parent Portal from Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. through Friday, Dec. 4 at noon. Parent-teacher conferences will take place virtually on Dec. 8, 10 and 11 via Zoom.

In honor of American Education Week, the Education Foundation of Downers Grove District 58 invites families to thank a special teacher or staff member with a donation to its Green Apple Teacher/Staff Recognition Program.

District 58 has postponed the opening of the parent-teacher conference registration system to Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. While we had intended to begin registration this week, unfortunately, we are still working on making some final adjustments to our new system.

The Nov. 9, 2020 School Board meeting featured the 2020 Illinois Report Card, rationale into the District's decision to return to full remote learning, a vote to increase the substitute pay rate from $115 to $140 and more.

Beginning Monday, Nov. 16, District 58 must make a temporary shift to remote instruction for most students. The District will resume onsite instruction on Monday, Nov. 30. This shift is taking place because of the high number of absences for students and staff due to the pandemic.

The District 58 Board of Education will hold a Regular Board Meeting on Monday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Downers Grove Village Hall, 801 Burlington Ave.

Today's Communicate 58 newsletter features COVID-19 resources, insights into District 58's learning model decision-making process, Camp Edward/milk fee refund information, a curriculum implementation timeline and more!

Our partner high school district, District 99, announced today that it will take an adaptive pause from its current hybrid learning model. ... Like many other DuPage school districts, District 58 will continue offering our in-person hybrid instructional model with a full remote option.

District 58 considers a variety of factors when deciding whether schools can stay open, including county and local transmission levels; case and outbreak activity in our schools; and absenteeism among students and staff. We review data daily, and we meet weekly with the DuPage County Health Department.

The District has implemented a dashboard that shows possible and probable cases of COVID-19 as part of its goal to be transparent and to help protect the community. It is updated weekly Fridays at 4 p.m.

Board of Education

The Board will hold a Curriculum Workshop on Monday at 7 p.m. at Indian Trail School. They will review MAP assessment data, School Improvement Plans and other curricular related items.

Parent Teacher Conferences dates will be held in December, which is later in the year due to the transition to onsite hybrid instruction. Conferences will be conducted virtually via Zoom and parents can sign up via the parent portal in PowerSchool.
