Bonfield Express donates $13,000 to District 58

The annual Bonfield Express 5K fundraiser is Thanksgiving!

Downers Grove Grade School District 58 thanks the Bonfield Express Foundation, a local charity, for donating $1,000 to each of its 13 schools this fall. The Bonfield Express Foundation made this donation to support additional educational resources, as well as to recognize students who display extra effort and citizenship.

“The Bonfield Express Foundation is an incredible organization that raises money through its community-oriented annual Bonfield Express 5K run and donates much of that money right back to the local schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Kevin Russell. “District 58 has benefited from the Bonfield Express’s generosity throughout the years, and we are incredibly grateful.”

For example, Highland School will spend the donation on high interest books and texts to support all levels of learners. Fairmount School used part of this year’s Bonfield donation to purchase spirit sticks for student recognition.

“In support of our Student Focus Committee, we purchased student recognition spirit sticks, which provide staff the opportunity to recognize students who go above and beyond, students who demonstrate ‘Falcon Focus” positive character traits, and students who excel in academics, social-emotional learning and community service,” said Fairmount Principal Lisa Niforatos.

Since the Bonfield Express Foundation was founded in 2004, it has given back over $660,000 in scholarships and funding to area schools.

The Bonfield Express’s capstone fundraising effort is its annual community Bonfield Express 5K. The race will take place on Thanksgiving morning in downtown Downers Grove. To learn more or to sign up for the Bonfield Express 5K, please visit www.bonfieldexpress.com.

Proceeds from this family-friendly event support the educational grants and scholarships that the Bonfield Express provides District 58 and other local school districts.

The Bonfield Express Foundation, named after the late Jim Bonfield, raises money to help local students who demonstrate Jim Bonfield’s character traits: personal perseverance, strong moral character, joy of learning and commitment to community.
