Downers Grove Grade School District 58 looks forward to welcoming K-8 students and families on the first day of school, Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020. The first day of school will be a full day. (The first day of school for Preschool students is Friday, Aug. 28. Preschool Meet the Teacher Day is Thursday, Aug. 27.) To help families prepare, here is some helpful back to school information!
What will school look like this fall?
This summer, District 58’s Remote Learning Task Force will prepare plans for one of three fall instructional scenarios: on-site instruction, remote learning, and a blend of both. In addition, the task force will develop health and safety protocols for each scenario. The task force will present its recommendations to the District Leadership Team in early July for discussion, and final recommendations will be shared with the full School Board during the Board’s July 13 meeting.
District 58 will follow guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and health agencies regarding which instructional approach to follow in the fall. The District will communicate updates with the community throughout the summer.
The below back-to-school information pertains to school during a typical school year and may be adjusted pending the Remote Learning Task Force recommendations and ISBE/health agency guidance.

Curriculum Night is a time for parents to meet as a group with their children’s teachers to learn about the curriculum for the various grade levels and ask questions. This provides an excellent opportunity for parents and teachers to begin working together on behalf of the students.
Curriculum Night typically takes place in early September. We will post the 2020 dates this summer.
2020-21 School Supply Lists
School supply lists are not available yet for the 2020-21 school year. When they are ready, they will be posted to our school supply list webpage.
Bus routes for the 2020-21 school year will be posted the week of Aug. 24, 2020. We cannot post these routes sooner, since many new students register in the days leading up to school and require bus transportation. This alters our bus routes.
However, 2020-21 routes may be similar to the 2019-20 routes. Please click the below links to view the bus routes for the 2019-20 school year.

Health Examination and Immunization Requirements
View student health examination and immunization requirements (Spanish). There are specific requirements for students entering preschool, kindergarten, second grade and sixth grade, as well as for all new students. Visit the Health Services page for more information.
Most District 58 schools are not fully air conditioned. To ensure students, staff and visitors keep safe in the August and September heat, schools enact several heat relief measures and encourage students to bring a water bottle to school. Learn more.
Schools of 58 Parent Handbook
The 2020-21 Schools of 58 Handbook will be published this summer. In the meantime, families may view the 2019-20 Schools of 58 Handbook. It is important to annually review this handbook to understand District 58’s procedures. Parents who requested a paper copy (during registration) will receive it at Curriculum Night.
