Student Council:

The Fairmount Student Council is made up of student representatives from 2nd -6th grades. Students in grades 4th- 6th may run for office. The Council meets monthly to discuss spirit days, fundraising, service projects, and charitable contributions. In the past, the Council has supported Alliance for Smiles, American Cancer Society, and Ronald McDonald House to name a few. However, every year the students vote on which specific charities to support. The Spirit Days range from “Sport Team Day” to “Holiday Color Day.” Food and toy collections, cards for children in the hospital, Red Ribbon Week and letters to servicemen and women are some of the service projects that the Student Council has supported. Teacher sponsors: Kathryn Chick and Deanna Bloom

Beginner and Intermediate Orchestra:

Comprised of students from 4th, 5th, and 6th grade interested in learning to play a stringed instrument. Students can learn how to play the violin, viola, cello or bass. Orchestra members meet once a week during school with the orchestra teacher, which includes drill of fundamentals and sectional rehearsal of orchestra music. In addition, all orchestra students attend one large group rehearsal once per week after school. These rehearsals provide a large ensemble experience for students, and also serve as time to prepare music for the two evening concerts that students participate in during the year. Orchestra members start learning in 4th grade and continue on in the 5th and 6th grades.
