A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL...
Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! It is exciting to start another year at Whittier School. Our goal is to continue the long-standing reputation of educational excellence. As always, our faculty and staff have been preparing for a terrific school year.
This school year, we look forward to continuing our work and implementation of Guided Reading, along with small group instruction in Math. Technology integration will continue to progress throughout Whittier as we continue to use iPads, Apple TVs, and SmartBoards. This year the 1:1 mini iPad program will take place in grades 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6. We are very excited to have this program expand this year, and hopefully will be fully implemented during the 2015-16 school year. Social Emotional Learning will continue to emphasize school and classroom community through Classroom/Morning Meetings and Bullying Education and Prevention.
This year, our school theme is "Team Whittier." Whittier faculty, staff and students will be challenged to do their best to work together as a productive and effective team in order to accomplish classroom, student, teacher, school and community goals. There are many teams within our school and we will all focus on how best to work with each other. We continually strive to do our best and be our best, and in order to meet that challenge, we must all be active members of "Team Whittier."
We are so excited to begin our school year in our building with a new look. Many projects took place over the summer. All classrooms, offices, activity areas and hallways have either new tile or new carpeting. Our gym has an updated ventilation system. Some of our classrooms have updated heating units. The staff parking lot has been resurfaced. Our 86 year old building has been revitalized, and we are ready for some awesome learning and teaching to take place!
The school is the heart of every village. Teachers are responsible to teach and educate our children. Students are responsible to try their best and learn from the experiences afforded them. Parents are responsible to insure that their children are prepared and ready for each school day. The Community is responsible to support the overall educational process. Together, we will all work to achieve educational success for all our Whittier students!
Thank you for the support and confidence you give us in educating your children!
